How To Grow Gladiolus Bulbs

Prepare the soil: Plow the soil 30–40 cm deep and expose it to the sun for at least 25 days.

Choose the bulbs: A medium-sized bulb with a high crown is better than a large, flat bulb.

Plant the bulbs: Dig holes 4–5 in deep, with 3 in of space between each bulb. Place the bulbs in the holes with the pointy side up and the flat side down.

Water: Water the bulbs well after planting.

Space the plants: Space the plants 8–15 cm apart.

Plant in groups: Plant the bulbs in groups of at least six to create a more dramatic display.

Tie to stakes: Tie the plants to stakes as they grow to prevent stem damage from wind.

Add mulch: Add mulch to help retain water and keep weeds down.

Water regularly: Water regularly throughout the summer if you get less than one inch of rain per week.

Lift for winter: In colder regions, lift the bulbs for winter when the leaves turn yellow brown.

Dig and divide: Dig and divide the clumps every few years to select the best corns for replanting.
