Geranium Moody Mix
• Genus: Pelargonium (interspecific hybrid)
• Habit: Mounding, ideal for bedding, hanging baskets, containers
• Features: Large, brilliant flowers contrasting with dark green foliage
• Season: Summer blooming
• Size: Typically grows about 12–16 inches in height and spread
• Light: Full to partial sun; Moderate watering needs
🌱 Step 1 – Timing
• Best sowing period: Late winter to early spring (8–12 weeks before your last expected frost).
• Geraniums are slow to grow from seed, so early sowing gives them a head start.
🏺 Step 2 – Materials Needed
• Good-quality geranium seeds
• Seed starting tray or shallow pots
• Fine, well-draining seed-starting mix
• Clear plastic cover or humidity dome
• Spray bottle for misting
• Grow lights or a bright sunny windowsill
🌾 Step 3 – Sowing
1 Prepare the mix – Fill trays with moist, fine seed-starting soil.
2 Sow the seeds – Place one seed per cell or space them about 5 cm apart in a tray.
3 Cover lightly – Sprinkle a thin layer (~2–3 mm) of mix or vermiculite over seeds.
4 Label – Mark the variety and sowing date.
🌡 Step 4 – Germination Conditions
• Temperature: Keep between 21–24 °C (70–75 °F).
• Light: Seeds germinate better with light, so don’t bury them deep.
• Moisture: Keep soil evenly moist (not soggy) by misting.
• Germination time: Usually 7–21 days.
🌿 Step 5 – Seedling Care
• Once seedlings appear, move them to bright light or under grow lights (14–16 hours/day).
• Maintain temperatures around 18–21 °C (65–70 °F).
• Thin or transplant when seedlings have 2–3 true leaves.
🌼 Step 6 – Hardening Off
• 7–10 days before planting outdoors, gradually expose seedlings to outdoor conditions — start with a couple of hours in shade, increasing sunlight and time daily.
🌳 Step 7 – Planting Out
• When: After all danger of frost has passed.
• Spacing: 20–30 cm apart in garden beds or 1 plant per small pot.
• Site: Full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil.
💡 Tips for Success
• Don’t overwater — geraniums hate soggy roots.
• Pinch the growing tips when plants are 10–12 cm tall to encourage bushy growth.
• Remove faded flowers regularly for continuous blooming.
